“This is Renate Müller, a German toy artist and designer. When I saw this photo of her in her studio, it reminded me of our home in Los Angeles. I used to hang our patterns on a wall over our working table. We filled the wall and the patterns gathered dust, and it constantly reminded me of all the things we’ve done, created. We’ve been at it for more than six years. Here’s a quote from her interviews:
“Last year I got a hippo back to fix — I think it was 40 years old,” Müller said in August over coffee and open-face salami sandwiches in her studio in Sonneberg, Germany. “All O.K., the wood inside all O.K., only the jute was a little bit destroyed and the leather I must sew again. That was a very good feeling for me.”
